FREEZER-GRADE LABEL MATERIAL OPTIONS

  • Not all freezer labels are created equal. As with most aspects of the label-printing industry, the conditions in which the label will be used determines the mix of materials it should be made from, particularly in terms of ink, adhesive, and substrate (a.k.a. label stock or facestock—the stuff it's printed on). Paper labels made for dry cold won't last long in wet, cold environments, while exposure to abrasives, corrosive chemicals, and other conditions may require tough synthetic substrates, as well as determining which adhesives or inks should be used.

    On this page, we provide stats for the freezer label types we provide most often. Here's a mock-up of the standard description template, providing information on what each category means.

     

     

  • Format: How the labels come to you: in rolls or sheets.

    Substrate: The type and weight of label substrate (paper or synthetic), expressed in pounds (#). The higher the # number, the thicker and heavier the substrate.

    Adhesive: The type of glue used to make the labels stick.

    Liner: The backing used to protect the adhesive, expressed in #.

    Supplied: Preprinted or blank.

    Minimum Application Temperature: The lowest temperature at which you can apply the pressure sensitive adhesive labels and expect them to stick.

    Service Temperature Range: The temperature range at which the labels will remain stuck to the packaging.

    Special features: Special features distinguishing these labels from others (if any). Note: may be combined with the "Uses" category in some cases.

    Uses: Where and how the labels can be used.
